The garage door attacked the CX-5. :-(

For some reason, the garage door went up and then came back down onto the roof of the CX-5 when my wife was arriving home tonight.

It scratched the hell out of the right roof rail, which I touched up with a silver paint marker. What I am more concerned about is this:

Kinja'd!!!

That’s the “shark fin” radio antenna the vehicle came with. It’s OEM. It looks shitty now, yes. But I can touch it up with the Mazda touch up paint I have. However, is this thing supposed to move? I can move it a slight few degrees back and forth with my hand. I don’t know if that’s normal or not and I don’t have another CX-5 for reference.

Now, I’m worried about water leaking. It rains a lot here in Kentucky. I guess I need to call body shops tomorrow. Ugh.

Your house is haunted. You have to burn it down to the ground.

Your garage does not have a sensor?

When it does that, use a firm voice and tell it “NO”. It'll get the message.

At 4%, they'd have to blast me out of here. Damn ghosts can start paying the mortgage, then.

Yes but the beam was between both wheels of the vehicle and the vehcile’s ground clearance is enough that the door sensors assumed nothing was there. It went back up once it contacted the car, but by then, the damage was done.

I’ve tested the sensors myself by sticking my foot in front of them as the garage door was lowering. They do work.

I am not sure what caused it to raise all the way and then come back down.

Might be frowned upon. I wonder if I can find another CX-5 in a crowded parking garage somewhere.

Will definitely try that.

If you're quick you can probably try 2-3 before someone approaches you

Holly s#!t Sorry for your troubles but just added to my list to raise the sensor on mine. This would suck.

Maybe it doesn’t like the monogram on the back window; white women need to watch out now, as garage doors are going full-out anti-monogram mode!

Or trying to, as doors can’t reach the windows. But I hope the antenna is still working okay!

You’re right, that won’t be frowned upon

They’re usually just held on with automotive adhesive tape - if the other CX5's sharkfins don’t wobble, then I’d just pull it off, clean the area really well (as well as the bottom of the fin, reapply adhesive and it’ll stick really well. Does it have a gasket at the bottom where it meets the roof?

Unfortunately, through some research, I’ve found that the CX-5's shark fin antenna is bolted to a crossmember of the roof directly below it. We are going to have to pull the headliner from the rear and access the underside of the antenna to see if it needs to be replaced or if it can be tightened back down and touched up with touch up paint.

Oh geez - that’s the first time I’ve heard of one held on that way. Probably great for longevity, but tough if something like this happens.
